What CEPIFINE does

CEPIFINE is an international non-profit trade association conducting sector analysis projects for its members. Also the association promotes the products and image of woodfree graphic papers in Europe. Specifically, it provides its members, third parties and the public with information and data relating to fine paper products in Europe.

In addition, CEPIFINE serves a promotional and product support role with respect to various target groups such as customers and paper buyers, consumers, the media, government officials and students. The objective is to promote European fine paper products in a positive light and show the important contribution that fine paper makes to society in general, based on a sustainable, renewable resource.

Among the activities of CEPIFINE are the following important functions:

  • Collecting publicly-available economic, technical, statistical and other data related to the European woodfree coated and/or uncoated paper industry.
  • Carrying out studies and analysis, based on this data.
  • Promoting and enhancing the reputation and image of fine papers.
  • Serving as a link between the producers and various third parties, as well as the general public.
  • Conducting in-depth study of certain issues of common interest to its members, for example technical fields such as telecommunications, transportation, etc.

It should be noted that the association is charged with carrying out these activities in full accordance with all applicable competition rules and laws.

The roots of CEPIFINE can be traced back to 1976, when EUPAGRAPH (Groupement Européen de Fabricants de Papiers d'Impression et d'Ecriture), a fine paper association, was founded in Paris, covering the countries in the European Community (EC).

In 1982 EPI (The European Paper Institute) was formed in Paris to cover both the EC and EFTA countries. It also took the responsibility for the fine paper product groups: woodfree coated and woodfree uncoated papers.

In 1992 two separate associations were established: CEPIFINE coated and CEPIFINE uncoated. CEPIFINE coated was operating in Paris and CEPIFINE uncoated moved to Brussels.

Finally, in 1996 there was a unification of these two associations and CEPIFINE was established in Brussels.
